At 9:00 am on April 10, 2019, the Machinery Transplanting meeting, which was held by the Xiaogan City Agricultural Technology Promotion Center in Zhenxi Cooperative of Xihe Town, Xiaonan District, was officially opened. The variety used at the on-site meeting was Yongyou 4949.
Many farmers who planted the Yongyou4949 as ratoon rice came to the site. Combining the farming practices in recent years and the cultivation techniques provided by the Prof. Peng’s Ratoon Rice Team from Huazhong Agricultural University, the farmers have summarized a lot of experiences on the cultivation of ratoon rice, and they agreed that the most important factor to get high yielding was to select the suitable variety.
At present, the main cultivation variety of ratoon rice in Xiaonan District is Yongyou4949, which shows big advantages compared with other varieties, such as: low temperature tolerance, high temperature resistance, lodging resistance, good rice quality and high yielding. Many farmers suggest that farmers who grow ratoon rice in other counties and cities around should try this variety, and the comparative advantage of Yongyou4949 is obvious.
Mr. Le and Mr. Duan are big farmers from Xiaogan City. Today they gave us the cost of cultivation at the site. In the case of low rice marketing price in 2018, the farmers who planted Yongyou4949 still got the net profit of more than 1000RMB per mu after removed all the expenses. This income was undoubtedly gave a "reassuring" for farmers’ income. They also suggested that if you want to promote ratoon rice, you must guarantee the farmers' income satisfied. Only when the farmers satisfied, they will continue to plant. And they will introduce the varieties to the surrounding farmers, the cultivation area will be extended. At the same time, the concept of “organic products and pollution-free” of ratoon rice has been vigorously promoted and cooperation with rice millers has been strengthened, more and more farmers will select Yongyou4949.
