On April 12, 2019, Leaders from Hubei Provincial Department of Finance, Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture, and Hubei Provincial Seeds Administration Bureau led the inspection to Wuhan GoldCrop Biotech Co., Ltd. seed base in Sanya, Hainan. During the meeting with the CEO and the Chief Breeder, the leaders held a discussion on the construction and development planning of the base, and encouraged everyone to make persistent efforts on construction of seed base, increasing the path of seed innovation, and help the company's development. The responsible person of Hubei Provincial Seed Association accompanied the inspection.
Since 2010, Wuhan GoldCrop Biotech Co., Ltd. has been insisting on the combination of local season breeding in Hubei and winter breeding in Hainan. Through the breeding in two locations, the company has bred new varieties in the past four years, of which 5 hybrid rice varieties and 1 hybrid cotton variety got released. The first hybrid Indica-Japonica variety, Youyou 4949, was successfully selected and cultivated in Hubei Province. The area of promotion and application accounted for more than 70% of the area of Middle-matured Japonica in Hubei Province.
According to the National Research and Breeding Base (Hainan) Construction Plan (2015-2025), Wuhan GoldCrop Biotech Co., Ltd. was supported by this project in January 2018 to build a long-running and a relatively stable research and breeding base. The base is located in the 11th and 12th Plot of Nanbin Farm, Sanya City, Hainan Province, which is in the core area of the National Base. It covers an area of 5ha and is mainly used for the selection and duplication of rice, corn, cotton and other crops, including material identification, evaluation, breeding, matching, and other scientific research content. Among them, the area for rice research and breeding is 2ha, for cotton is 2ha, and for corn is 1ha. In the middle of September to mid-March next year, the Company assign breeders to carry out scientific research and breeding work at the base.
